Con la mostra “IlluminaMENTE” arrivano a Bologna le sculture di luce dell'artista scoperto da Barilli negli anni Ottanta.

Anni fa disse in un’intervista di considerarsi un “elettricista” e “di avere una visione proletaria dell’arte”. Dichiarazione auto-ironica e programmatica, ma anche perfetto autoritratto di Marco Lodola, poliedrico personaggio dell’arte contemporanea, oggi “giovane” cinquantenne , che può vantare un ricco curriculum di mostre internazionali, comprese Biennali veneziane e collaborazioni con enti e aziende a livello mondiale. Da quando Renato Barilli già agli inizi degli anni Ottanta riconobbe la validità del suo lavoro, nell’area definibile “Nuovo Futurismo”, di strada Lodola ne ha fatta molta. Certo è che sono rari gli artisti contemporanei che osano l’allegria, senza sensi di colpa, magari elaborando luoghi comuni e comuni desideri. E Lodola è uno di questi, le cui matrici Futurista (Depero soprattutto) e Pop sono tanto palesemente dichiarate, quanto superate.
La chiave del suo successo è l’invenzione di un segno inequivocabile, che ha trasformato il suo stesso nome in un marchio glamour. Da un punto di vista formale, il “segno” lodoliano è un gioco stilistico basato sulla riduzione in sagome piatte ed essenziali di soggetti banali tratti dall’iconografia popolare (ballerini, motociclisti, calciatori, pin-up, cantanti e musicisti), rievocati in modo astratto, ma resi oltremodo accattivanti da colori intensi, e animati dalla luce elettrica. Le sue opere più note sono i light box, sculture luminose a parete o a piedistallo, in cui con un assemblaggio di lastre colorate e sagomate di materiale plastico si definisce l’immagine all’interno di uno stampo, che poi sarà retroilluminato. Hanno l’appeal dell’oggetto di design, ma sono invece opere d’arte uniche, poiché Lodola, pur lavorando in serie, realizza ogni pezzo con dettagli diversi, variando i colori e il gioco delle luci, così che l’effetto tridimensionale è sempre differente. In un’altra serie, usa come box delle sagome trasparenti e pone all’interno fili luminosi colorati, che suggeriscono amplificando il segno grafico che si riscontra anche nei bozzetti, l’idea di una circolazione di energia; o ancora nastri di lampadine abbracciano oggetti feticcio, come in una celebre opera realizzata con una moto Ducati. Nelle tele si ripetono il modulo linearistico di tipo illustrativo e l’à plat, con i medesimi soggetti costruiti con un collage di lastre di plastica colorate e completate da pittura acrilica.
Da un punto di vista concettuale, l’artista sceglie di essere suggestivo e scenografico, e di dedicare le sue creazioni a ciò che tiene unite le persone in tutte le latitudini del mondo, la passione per la musica, per lo sport, per il divertimento; miti vivi e condivisi, in cui l’autore dichiara le sue stesse passioni e in cui tanti si rispecchieranno. Se arte è comunicazione, il segno di Lodola definisce un sistema linguistico volutamente privo di ambiguità, astratto ma chiaramente traducibile e riconoscibile, e definisce un luogo ideale di libertà e di leggerezza, (il sito ufficiale dell’artista si chiama Lodoland), un perenne luna park dove vedere rappresentati i propri eroi dello sport, della musica, dei fumetti e tante figure di ragazze e giovani che giocano, si divertono, ballano.
Determinanti nella valorizzazione dell’artista e del suo mercato sono le numerose installazioni pubbliche realizzate, dove i light box si trasformano in enormi totem per una tribù metropolitana che può fruirli come omaggio a un immaginario comune.
Per contrappunto molti degli allestimenti più suggestivi di Lodola sono stati realizzate in luoghi simbolo, a Pechino nella Città Imperiale nel 1994, a Palermo nel 2000, all’aeroporto internazionale di Città del Messico nel 2006, a Milano in Piazza Duomo dove ha realizzato il Rock’n Music Planet nel 2009, alla London Opera Gallery nel 2010, a Venezia alla Ca’ d’oro trasformata in Ca’ Lodola, durante l’ultima Biennale.
La Di Paolo Arte, dopo stagioni di mostre dedicate ai massimi esponenti del Novecento, amplia la sua rigorosa scelta di campo, che ne ha caratterizzato l’identità di galleria “dei maestri”, e presenta “Illumina-MENTE” , una mostra appunto di Lodola. Meno impegnativa, dice Nicolò Di Paolo, delle precedenti, ma abbiamo voluto proporre questo artista che da anni abbiamo noi stessi collezionato e imparato ad apprezzare, per il linguaggio ironico, gradevole. Abbiamo la sorpresa di vedere un pubblico diverso, giovane, famiglie e anche i bambini vogliono entrare in galleria attirati da queste opere.
Si potrebbe aprire un discorso su questa carica positiva di Lodola, sulla seduzione delle opere, sulle ascendenze di una espressione a suo modo estrema: dando per scontate le reminiscenze Pop, penso piuttosto a Matisse, la riduzione all’astratto, il ritaglio colorato … e ancora sull’aspetto della spettacolarizzazione, sull’apertura del ruolo dell’artista ad interazioni con interpreti in campi diversi della creatività (la musica, il cinema, il teatro) … Ci sarebbe molto da dire, perché Lodola è un “personaggio” che caratterizza fortemente il suo operato e può illuminare molti scenari e molte menti.
